1 million credit missions are seen with lower trade ranks such as Dealer and 8-9 million contracts start rolling in around Tycoon/Elite.
This post will break down some tips and techniques to make the most out of smuggling, at any level.
After acquiring a ship to make runs with, load up on fuel and head out to the system Robigo. The system is around 300LY from our operation area.
In Robigo there is an outpost name Robigo Mines. If you are playing in open it may take a while to land at the outpost, since there are often other CMDRs using the single medium pad. If this is the case you can switch over to solo/private and land.
Once landed check the bulletin board (BB) for smuggling missions :
You may need to increase your reputation with Robigo Cartel and/or Sirius Inc. before smuggling missions show up. If that's the case, accept any donation missions you see for these factions.
You can stack as many missions as your cargo hold permits.
Some concerns choosing missions:
- How long do I have? - Short mission times may not be worth accepting. Give yourself 1-2hr minimum.
- How far is the drop-off station from star? - A distance of 100,000ls takes about 8-10min to travel.
- What's the payout per ton? - Divide reward by cargo volume. Some missions hog too much cargo space.
- The BB updates every 5min - An hour or two sitting in station will provide many missions in total.
- Check BB in all gamemodes - Cycle through Open/Private/Solo modes to find all available missions.
While smuggling missions are preferred, some normal long-distance delivery missions may help raise trade rank and boost the overall profit from a trip.
Once you have enough missions just head out to their delivery locations. Most of the time the delivery locations are all arranged in a small area.
Smuggling illicit good into a station is not too difficult. If you line your ship up with the stations's slot, about 8-10km away, you can fly in at a controlled speed and get inside before any scans have time to finish.
If you do get scanned, and are not in an ideal position to get into the station, do not worry. Fines for illicit cargo are not too harsh, right now. Just make sure you pay the fine as soon as you land, or you might forget and risk it becoming a bounty.
Type-6 Transporter - Entry level LR smuggler - 7,197,971cr (w/10% discount)
The Type-6 is a great ship for making the ~300LY trip to Robigo with enough cargo space to accept quite a few missions. As equipped the ship is not well defended, but should be able to get out of any NPC interdictions along the way.
Asp Explorer - All purpose Robigo runner - 12,650,034cr (w/10% discount)
A well equipped Asp Explorer is considered the ideal Robigo runner by many commanders. This ship has fantastic range, can land at outposts (medium pads) and has plenty of cargo space. Along with more room for cargo the Asp also has enough power and excess range to carry a decent arrangement of weapons for a defensive advantage over the Type-6.
