A special mention to fuel rats; I'd like to support their Community Goal to refuel Jacques station in some small way. Like many, I've used this service, and I thought it was a good way to return the favour. Fuel rats are a non-political organisation, so I feel comfortable offering whatever assistance that time may allow with our other activities. Jacques station is about 200ly out from our cluster, so taking trade goods out to the station (and perhaps gathering exploration data and/or Jacque's rare good) before returning to San could be a quickish route. Of course, we have our other commitments... but if Jacques is able to resume his journey (including random jumps to other systems), it's possible that he could make an approach vector towards our area of space. And of course, the fuel rats are always available when you run out of fuel... so its a great service.
Glad to hear we have some action on this one. And remember: if you find friendly folks friends (traders, bounty hunters... anyone but pirates) "out there", feel free to extend the hand of friendship from Sirius Inc.
The station and sign up for the CG are in Gliese 1269. There is info in the Fuel Rats CG link about where to ship fuel from, and their radio ads from RadioSidewinder.
Ranges for a Run are only from 34-55Ly, and hopefully higher than regular fuel trading profits... will report back on that.
05 MAY 3302
Equipped with a cluster of drive engines, Jaques Station is noted for being the galaxy's only travelling starport. Owned and operated by a cyborg known as 'Jaques', the Orbis station has been roaming the galaxy for over 40 years, and in that time it has become something of a cultural icon. Now, after more than four decades of travel, Jaques is about to embark on his most ambitious expedition yet – a long-distance jump from Gliese 1269 to Beagle Point.
In a statement, Jaques explained the thinking behind the venture.
"Well, I've been wandering the galaxy for over forty years now, and the truth is that after a while, travel starts to lose its allure. You've got to remember, I've been alive for several centuries. The things that used to excite you just sort of...lose their spark. I thought a long-distance leap might rekindle my enthusiasm."
Naturally, moving a starport such a considerable distance requires a significant amount of fuel, which is why Jaques has turned to celebrated search-and-rescue organisation the Fuel Rats for help. The Fuel Rats, in turn, have issued an appeal to their many members and supporters to contribute fuel to Jaques's operation. The Fuel Rats Mischief, which is coordinating the operation, has promised to generously reward those who support the operation.
The campaign begins on the 5th of May 3302 and will run for one week. If the final target is met earlier than planned, the campaign will end immediately.
Fly safe CMDR's
ps. Hang around in the site chat and we'll get a trade wing going or something.
Contributed 197 tonnes thus far. I asked the question what would happen if you are docked when it finally attempts the jump. Apparently you do not jump with the station (which would have annoyed plenty of CMDRs who got to Beagle Point the hard way)
Good job delivering that much for the CG! I've managed to deliver 560t of hydrogen fuel so far. Every ton of fuel helps \o/
I was actually considering to wait until the station jumps away to Beagle Point (so I'd be forced to explore again, I never manage to surpass 1000LY) but if you don't jump with the station... well I guess that's redundant anyway :P
